Mist shrouded mountains, meandering roads, and miles of lush tea gardens welcome you to Munnar, a tiny hamlet in the hills of Kerala. Once a hill retreat for the British, Munnar still exudes old-world charm in its sleepy bungalows, colonial cottages, and age-old churches. Though the hills here are pretty much dyed in shades of green, this changes every 12 years when the rare Neelakurinji flower blooms, and colors the mountains in purple-blue tints.
Set at the confluence of three mountains, this scenic spot is home to a beautiful lake & fabulous views. A perfect spot for a romantic tête-à-tête, Echo Point is a favorite with honeymooning couples. Shout out your partner’s name and hear the mountains & the lakes echoing the same!
A quick drive on meandering roads takes you to Top Station, the highest point in Munnar at 1700m. Swirling mist, dreamy clouds, lush foliage, and geometric patterns of tea gardens add to its beauty. Every 12 years, Neelakurinji flower blossoms here, painting the whole hill in a thick coat of purplish-blue.
Located in Tata Tea Estate, this tea museum depicts the legacy of tea in Munnar through a captivating collection of photographs, artifacts, and old machinery. Don’t miss the tea tasting session, and be sure to pick bags of flavored tea as choice souvenirs.
A choice destination for nature lovers, hikers, and wildlife enthusiasts, this national park is home to the elusive and endangered Nilgiri Tahr. Anamudi, the highest peak in South India at 2700m, lies inside Eravikulam, and many adventurous souls visit here to scale it.
Built by a British, Henry Knight, for his young wife who died here in Munnar, this colonial era church exudes nostalgia and old world charm. Its granite structure, embellished with delicate stain-glass windows and brass plaques, depicts beauty in simplicity.
