Coimbatore is the second largest city of Tamil Nadu after Chennai. It lies in a beautiful location on the bank of the Noyyal River, ringed by the Western Ghats. The city packs in a lot of scenic beauty with lakes and waterfalls. Its past is equally interesting having ruled by various dynasties which began with Kovan Tribals followed by Karikala Chola, Rashtrakudas, Chalukyas, Pandyas, Hoyasalas and Vijayanagar.
Later, under the rule of Britishers, it emerged as the leading centre of the textile industry for which it was labeled as 'the Manchester of South India'. With the great history, it is bestowed with an architectural legacy of temples that makes it a tourist magnet of the state.
Sitting atop a hillock on the Western Ghats, it is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Murugan or Kartikeya. It is believed to be the Seventh House of Lord Murugan. The name 'Marudham' is taken from the hillock on which it is situated. It has is a cave named Paambatti Siddhar; also see water bodies - 'Marudha Thirtam' and the 'Pambatti Sunai' which are believed to have water carrying medicinal properties.
It is a famous Shiva temple built during the reign of Chola dynasty. The presiding deity is of Shiva, known as ‘Patteeswarar’ and his consort Parvati, known as ‘Pachainayaki’. Unravel the striking features like a golden statue of Nataraja and numerous gopurams of which the most popular is 'Kanaka Sabha'. The pillars are engraved with aesthetic carvings depicting manifestations of Shiva. Arasambalavanar Shrine is a must-see as it believed to be the point where Shiva performed Tandav.
One of the famous temples, it is located on Pollachi road, 13 km from the city centre. The holy temple is dedicated to Lord Ganesha and is sanctified by his enormous 6-foot tall idol. Folklore says, the diol was being transported from Madurai for installation in Perur Pateeswarar temple but the cart’s axle broke and this temple was then constructed at that spot. It is best visited during festivals like Vinayaka Chaturthi as that time the temple is decorated in all its glory.
Jump in the adventure and chase thrills of exploring the mind-boggling wildlife of the region. It is home to 39 species of mammals, 268 species of birds, 61 species of reptiles, 47 fish species and so on. The main residents are Bengal Tigers, Indian leopards, the Western Ghats flying squirrel and more. The avifauna world charms travelers with rare bird species like great pied hornbill, great Indian hornbill and little cormorant.
The beautiful Western Ghats make the scenery of Coimbatore highly enchanting. Siruvani Waterfalls are one of these natural wonders majestically cascading down the lush slopes. It offers a beautiful trek that will show you picturesque views passing through streams, resplendent forests and mist all around. It helps you connect with nature and refresh in its pristine surroundings.
The ideal time to visit Tamil Nadu would be in winters from October to February.

Just come back from an amazing 2 week trip to India. First we done the golden triangle which we chose to do the train trip from Delhi to Agra a must you have to do if not just for the experience. All the cities were wonderful. In mumbia we done a city tour and ended our trip in the taj for afternoon tea another must. They really looked after us thank you all.
