A mesmerizing sight as the waters of three colors from the Arabian Sea, the Bay of Bengal, and the Indian Ocean meet at your feet- Kanyakumari, aka Cape Comorin, brings to you panoramic delights wrapped in a bit of mythology. This southernmost tip of India, often referred to as the end of the land, beckons you for a time out from the daily grind. Long walks on the beach, spectacular sunrise & sunsets, spiritual temples, and the serenity of the sea await you at Kanyakumari.
Standing at the confluence of the three seas, Kumari Amman Temple, dedicated to the Virgin Goddess Kumari, is a picture of beauty and spirituality. Considered as a Shakti Peeth, this temple receives a high footfall of devotees every year. Its inner sanctum holds a stunning image of the Goddess facing the east. The legend goes that the Goddess’s nose ring shines so brightly that the mariners used to mistake it for a lighthouse, thus causing shipwrecks. Therefore the eastern door of the temple is kept shut and is only opened on five festivals days in a year.
Swami Vivekananda, the eminent Indian scholar & thinker, once swam over to this tiny island off the coast and meditated here for three days till he received a sort of Vedic enlightenment. Much later in 1970, a striking memorial, housing his statue, was built here and is much visited for its tranquil ambiance and delightful views.
Right opposite the Vivekanand Rock Memorial, a tall 133 ft high statue of Tamil poet-saint Thiruvalluvar pays tribute to the 133 chapters of his much renowned literary work Thirukkural. Take a ferry ride here to revel in the serene beauty of the land & the sea.
Pristine sands, shimmering waters, and the confluence of three seas greet you at this gorgeous beach. The best time to visit here is at sunset when the sky turns into dramatic shades of purple, orange & red, and a fiery ball of red makes its way down the horizon. On certain days in a year, you can witness sunset and moonrise happening simultaneously- a unique happening indeed!
Padmanabhapuram Palace- A 17th century Travancore dynasty palace

Food in Kanyakumari is quite similar to Sri Lankan cuisine. Spicy Kothu Parotta, crispy banana & jackfruits fritters, and palm fruit juice are must-try culinary specialties of Kanyakumari.
The best time to visit Kanyakumari would be in winter from October to February.
