As you embark on city tour, this temple is the first place you should head to, that is believed to be the oldest and the largest temple of Mathura. The chief deity inside this temple is black marble idol of Lord Dwarkadheesh, a form of Lord Krishna. Beside him is the white marble idol of Rukmini Devi. The structure is spellbinding; entrance will fascinate you with Rajasthani style architecture. Also see a small temple of Shaligram, a form of Lord Krishna, within the complex.
Slip into the serenity and calm ambience of this sacred lake located an hour drive away from the city. Folklore say, Radha used to visit this lake to pick flowers. And slowly it became known as 'Kusum' meaning flower and 'Sarovar' meaning lake. On the periphery, you will see Rajasthani architectural cenotaphs of Bharatpur royal family. Get inside, only to be amazed by the eye-catching frescoes and some paintings of Maharaja Suraj Mal.
Rediscover the beauty of historically significant fort named after the maternal uncle of Krishna, Kans. It was built by Raja Man Singh I of Jaipur who was one of the ‘nine gems’ in Akbar's court. Capture the majestic blend of Hindu and Mughal style of architecture of the fort. Its location on the bank of Yamuna River enhances its charm rendering splendid view.
Officially called Government Museum, it is an archaeological museum exhibiting artifacts and discoveries pertaining to archaeology. In 1874, the then collector of the Mathura district, Sir F. S. Growse, founded it as 'Curzon Museum of Archaeology'. Today, it is one of the most visited places in Mathura. Travelers visit it specially to see the ancient sculptures of the Mathura school dating back to Kushan Empire and Gupta Empire.
Jama Masjid is an age-old mosque built in 1662 by Abd-un-Nabi Khan, governor of Aurangzeb. The historic beauty attracts history buffs and devotees who come to offer their prayers. It’s building with minarets and dome reminds of Islamic style of architecture which shares resemblance with other mosques of this time.
Mathura is best visited in the winter months from October to March.
By Air- Kheria Airport in Agra is the nearest airport to Mathura that offers domestic flights.
By Rail- The rail connectivity is served by Mathura Junction railway station with non-stop trains to major cities like Delhi, Agra, Mumbai, Jaipur, Gwalior, Calcutta, Hydrabad, Chennai, Lucknow etc.
By Road- It is linked to all important cities with National Highways.

Just come back from an amazing 2 week trip to India. First we done the golden triangle which we chose to do the train trip from Delhi to Agra a must you have to do if not just for the experience. All the cities were wonderful. In mumbia we done a city tour and ended our trip in the taj for afternoon tea another must. They really looked after us thank you all.
